Conference Keynote Speech on Leadership

This is a time for bold leadership! That’s the closing quote in Patrick’s most recent “Anarchy, Inc.” book. Patrick is passionate about strong leadership. He encourages readers and conference attendees to “stay on offense” and look for new revenue opportunities in related “adjacent markets” industries. The easiest way to identify adjacent markets to first identify your biggest suppliers and then ask yourself who else they sell to. Then, identify your biggest customers and ask yourself who else they buy from. It only takes 20 or 30 minutes to create a list of a dozen or more. The only remaining task is then to ask yourself what all those adjacent markets are doing poorly. In all likelihood, many are doing just fine. They’re doing great. But it’s also likely that you’ll quickly be able to identify 2 or 3 that are struggling and providing a poor product or a poor service level. Those all represent new revenue opportunities, and business executives need to regularly evaluate those opportunities and decide if they wish to expand their business model to incorporate those products or services. Patrick’s keynote speech will hone in on this strategy and inspire attendees to stay aggressive and look to disrupt other businesses.

Future Leadership Qualities

Disruptive innovation is expected to destroy up to 40% of our current Fortune 500 companies. But that revenue won’t simply disappear. Instead, those businesses will be replaced by newer and more progressive competitors that will grow quickly within their respective industries. Most executives instinctively go into a defensive posture, trying to protect the revenue streams they currently have. The problem is that this defensive focus makes it even more difficult to see the opportunities springing up all around you. It’s called “institutional blindness” and it destroys creativity and innovation. The trick is to regularly do mental exercise to focus on outside opportunities and evaluate those opportunities on a regular pre-scheduled basis. Meeting once each month might be sufficient. The important thing is to maintain that offensive posture and look for ways to grow and transform your business for tomorrow’s realities.

Leadership Conference Speech

Patrick spends most of his time researching case histories and success stories where new technologies are deployed with positive ROI. He has hundreds of these use cases in every conceivable industry. If you were to engage Patrick for your upcoming conference, his first step would be to schedule a call to discuss the audience and topic possibilities in more detail. He would want to speak with at least one (but preferably two or three) attendees prior to the event in order to gain insights from people within your industry. He will request that you suggest a few attendees who you think are particularly progressive and successful from a technology perspective. Those individuals will provide the perfect feedback for his research process, and his keynote speech will be based on those client conversations.
